A:
To replace the differential seal in a vehicle, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands. Then, drain the differential lubricant and separate the drive axle from the differential, suspending it out of the way. Next, use a long punch and hammer to drive the differential flange gear out of the differential, being ready to catch the flange as it comes out. If necessary, a puller may be needed to remove the flange on certain models. After that, pry the seal out of the differential using a screwdriver. To install the new seal, use a large socket or section of pipe and a hammer, making sure to apply grease to the lip of the seal before installing the differential flange. Finally, the rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.
