Q: How to replace the starter/solenoid assembly in a Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: 1980-87 models have a lever and pinion gear solenoid on the starter body. 1988 and later models have two gear reduction starters. If the gear reduction starter is faulty, replace the entire Starter Motor/solenoid assembly. Detach the battery's negative terminal. Caution: Obtain the correct activation code for the stereo's anti-theft system. Remove the starter assembly from the engine. Remove Starter Solenoid mounting bolts and separate it from the starter body. Installation is the reverse of removal.
