Q: What is the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor and how is it replaced?
A: The intake manifold temperature sensor is a thermistor that changes its resistance values in accordance with temperature changes, directly affecting the voltage signal from the sensor to the PCM. Any problem in the intake manifold temperature sensor circuits will set a diagnostic trouble code. On four-cylinder models, the intake manifold temperature sensor is located in the air cleaner assembly and can be disconnected from its electrical connector to measure the resistance between the two terminals using an ohmmeter. To replace the intake manifold temperature sensor, ensure the ignition key is in the OFF position, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the sensor from the air cleaner. Installation is the reverse of removal.
