  A: To remove and install an oil cooler on an engine, first, drain the engine oil and coolant, and remove the engine cover. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler, and remove the union bolt to separate the oil cooler from the oil filter adapter. Be sure to plug the lines to prevent leakage and install a new 0-ring and plate washer during installation. Tighten the union bolt to the proper torque specifications, install a new oil filter, and refill the engine with oil and the cooling system with the proper type and concentration of antifreeze. Check for coolant leakage and proper gauge function.

Drain the coolant into a container. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Remove the front exhaust pipe assembly from the vehicle. If equipped with the PAIR emission system, remove the air pipe. Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove the oil pressure switch. Remove the oil cooler hoses. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the oil cooler. Remove the oil cooler mounting bolt. Use a breaker bar and socket to remove the oil cooler mounting bolt. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket under the relief valve and a new O-ring between the oil cooler and the engine block. If equipped, make sure the alignment tab engages with the projection on the engine block. Tighten the relief valve to the torque.
