If replacing any cables, take the old ones when buying new ones to ensure identical parts. Clean the solenoid or ground connection threads with a wire brush and apply a light coat of corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to prevent future corrosion. Attach the cable securely to the solenoid or ground connection. Before connecting a new cable to the battery, ensure it reaches the battery post without stretching.
