Remove the centre console and disconnect them from the operating levers on the gearchange unit. Prise up the cables to detach their collars from the front of the gearchange unit.

To remove the automatic transmission shift levers, start by removing the centre console. Then, unscrew the nut at the front of the levers and withdraw the shift cable end fitting. Lift the cable to detach the retaining plate from the front of the lever assembly and move the cable to the side. Next, prise off the shift lock cable end fitting on the passenger side of the lever assembly and twist the cable clockwise to release it from the front of the assembly. Disconnect the wiring plugs and unscrew the four floor bolts to remove the assembly from the car. To remove the shift cable, follow the same steps of removing the centre console and unscrewing the nut at the front of the levers. Lift the cable to detach the retaining plate from the lever assembly. Jack up the front of the car and support it on axle stands. Under the car, remove the bolts securing the cable's floor plate/grommet and the bolt from the cable bracket attached to the underside of the car. Draw the cable through from the inside of the car, making sure not to kink or bend it. Check for any additional mounting brackets, clips, or ties and disconnect them as needed. In the engine compartment, slide out the metal clip holding the cable to the support bracket at the front of the transmission. Remove the nut and washer and detach the shift cable from the operating lever on the transmission. Carefully remove the cable without kinking or bending it. To refit, reverse the removal steps and ensure all gears can be selected before driving the car.
