Q:
How to remove the starter motor on Toyota Solara and 1997 through 2001 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the battery from the engine compartment. Disconnect and remove the cruise control actuator from the engine compartment, if equipped. Detach the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid assembly. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. Remove the bracket from the upper section of the starter/solenoid assembly. It is necessary to loosen one or two of the bracket bolts to allow the starter/solenoid assembly to partially drop down to gain access to the remaining bracket assembly bolts and hardware. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Q:
How do you remove the starter motor from Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the starter motor from four-cylinder models, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 2.4L engines on 2003 and earlier models, remove the air filter housing and air intake duct, while on 2004 and later models, remove the battery and battery tray. For 2.7L engines, remove the engine cover and then remove the air filter housing, upper and lower air intake ducts, and air filter bracket. Remove the battery for all engines. Detach the electrical connectors from the starter/solenoid assembly and remove the starter motor mounting bolts to remove the starter. For V6 models, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the battery and battery tray for Highlander models with a 2GR-FKS engine, or just the battery for 2GR-FE models. Remove the air filter housing and air intake duct for all models. On 1999 through 2003 V6 models, remove the starter motor first, then disconnect the electrical connectors. On RX350 models with a 2GR-FKS engine, disconnect the transaxle shift control cable and remove the bracket mounting bolts and bracket from the transaxle. On 2004 and later models, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the starter mounting bolts, then remove the starter. The installation process is the reverse of removal.
