Q:
How to replace the automatic transaxle fluid and Filter? Posted by Customer
A:
The automatic transaxle fluid should be replaced at specified intervals, and for this task, you'll need the recommended transmission fluid, jack stands to elevate the vehicle, wrenches, a drain pan (capable of holding at least four quarts), newspapers, and clean rags. It's crucial to drain the fluid while it's still warm, as hot fluid is more effective at removing sediment buildup. After driving to warm up the fluid, raise and support the vehicle on jack stands, and if applicable, remove the lower engine splash shield. Place the drain pan beneath the transaxle pan's drain plug, carefully remove the plug to allow the fluid to drain forcefully, and securely reinstall the drain plug. Loosen the rear bolts, then remove the front transaxle pan bolts, and use a screwdriver to gently pry the pan loose for remaining fluid drainage. Lower the pan once the fluid has drained. Next, remove the filter retaining bolts, disconnect the clip if equipped, and lower the filter while being cautious of residual fluid. Replace it with a new filter, reconnect any clips, and secure the bolts tightly. Thoroughly clean the gasket surfaces of the fluid pan, removing old gasket material, and clean and reinstall any magnets. Install a new gasket, position the fluid pan, and secure the bolts in their original locations to the specified torque. Lower the vehicle, add new fluid through the dipstick tube while periodically checking the level, and allow the fluid to drain into the pan. Start the engine, shift through all selector positions, return to Park, and apply the parking brake. With the engine idling, check and add fluid up to the Cool level on the dipstick.
