Q:
How to access and replace Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing in a Toyota Avalon and Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the clutch components while leaving the engine in the vehicle, follow these steps. If the engine is being removed for a major overhaul, it is recommended to check the clutch for wear and replace worn components. Start by removing the release cylinder and hanging it out of the way. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle, supporting the engine throughout the process. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks and loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a diagonal pattern. Remove the bolts, pressure plate, and clutch disc. During inspection, examine the flywheel for cracks, heat checking, and other damage. Check the lining of the clutch disc for wear and lose rivets, replacing it if in doubt. Replace the release bearing along with the clutch disc. Inspect the pressure plate for damage, grooves, or distortion, resurfacing or replacing it as needed. For installation, ensure the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces are clean and free of oil or grease. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate with an alignment tool, tightening the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a crisscross pattern. Center the clutch disc using the alignment tool and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Lubricate the release bearing and relevant contact areas with high-temperature grease. Install the release bearing, followed by the transaxle and all previously removed components, tightening all fasteners to the specified torque.
