Main bearings come in five sizes, and if the number on the original bearing is unclear, the main journal grade numbers stamped into the block and crankshaft counterweights can be used to determine the correct size bearings. For connecting rod bearings, the number stamped into the connecting rod cap should be matched with a standard size rod bearing. Ultimately, the oil clearance is the final judge when selecting new bearing sizes, and if there are any uncertainties, assistance can be sought from an auto parts store or a dealer parts or service department.
