The drive belts are located on the right side of the engine compartment and their good condition and proper adjustment are crucial for the engine's operation. If any of these conditions are present, the belt should be replaced. To check the tension of each belt, a belt tension gauge can be used, or a rule of thumb method can be applied by pushing firmly on the belt and measuring the deflection. If adjustment is needed for the V6 engine, the alternator/air conditioner belt can be adjusted by loosening the pivot bolt and turning the adjusting bolt, while the power steering pump belt can be adjusted by loosening the adjustment bolt and pivoting the pump. For replacement, the procedure varies for four-cylinder and V6 engines, but in both cases, the old belts should be taken to the parts store for comparison and the new belts should be properly centered in the pulley grooves.
