The drivebelts are located at the front of the engine and are prone to failure over time. They should be inspected periodically for signs of damage such as severed core, separation of adhesive rubber, cracks in the ribs, fraying, and glazing. If any of these conditions are present, the belts should be replaced. To replace the belts, the automatic tensioner must be released by rotating the bolt counterclockwise. For V6 engines, a dowel pin or drill bit should be inserted through the holes in the tensioner assembly before installing the new belt. For V8 engines, the new belt should be slipped over the tensioner and then the tensioner should be slowly released until it contacts the belt. The drivebelt should be centered on all of the pulleys. To replace the tensioner, the drivebelt must be removed and the tensioner mounting bolts should be removed. The tensioner can then be replaced and the fasteners should be tightened to the specified torque.
