The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components and cracked or worn blade elements. Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect their efficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution. The action of the wiping mechanism can loosen bolts, nuts and fasteners, so they should be checked and tightened, as necessary, at the same time the wiper blades are checked. If the wiper blade elements are cracked, worn or warped, or no longer clean adequately, they should be replaced with new ones. To replace the windshield wiper blades, remove the wiper blade assembly from the arm by raising the release lever, then sliding the assembly out of the hook in the end of the arm. Detach the blade insert element and pull it out of the right end of the wiper frame. Insert the new element end with the small protrusions into the right side of the wiper frame. Slide the element fully into place, then seat the protrusions in the end of the frames to secure it. For the rear wiper blade, lift the wiper arm from the rear window. Rotate the wiper blade away from the arm until a "click" sound is heard. Pull the wiper blade out toward the left side of the vehicle to remove it from the wiper arm. Insert the new wiper blade into the claw on the arm and snap the wiper blade into place on the wiper arm.
