To adjust the shifter cable, begin by accessing the steering column inside the vehicle. Remove the three screws and lift off the lower steering column cover. Take off the hood release handle from the lower instrument panel and open the shifter hole cover. Remove the fasteners from the lower corners of the lower instrument panel. To release the upper clips, use a screwdriver with tape around the tip and pull the panel rearward. Disconnect the wiring from the panel. Then, remove the shifter hole cover and the lower instrument panel. Ensure the shifter is in the Park position and loosen the cable adjusting nut. Verify that the vehicle is still in Park by rocking it with the parking brake released, making sure to block the wheels loosely first. Set the parking brake and push the lever to the Parkside. Gently pull the rod at the end of the cable and let it go while holding the lever in the Park position. Tighten the adjuster and release the lever. Finally, replace the removed panels to complete the process.
