Have the refrigerant discharged at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti theft system, check the information on page 0-15 at the front before detaching the cable. Remove the hood lock brace. Disconnect the discharge flexible hose from the condenser inlet fitting. Disconnect the liquid line hose from the condenser outlet fitting. Be certain to cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture out of the system. Remove the four retaining screws and lift out the condenser. Store it upright to prevent oil loss. Installation is the reverse of removal. However, make sure on installation that the liquid line hose and the discharge flexible hose to the condenser are tightened to the proper torque. If a new condenser was installed add refrigerant oil to the system. On 1983 and earlier and 1987 and later models add 1.4 to 1.7 fl. oz. (40 to 50 cc), on 1984 and 1985 models add 0.8 to 1.0 fl. oz. (25 to 30 cc) and on 1986 models add 0.3 to 0.7 fl. oz. (10 to 20 cc). Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
