Clean the wire thoroughly, looking for burns, cracks, or other damage. Do not bend the wire excessively, as it may lead to conductor breakage. Disconnect and inspect each wire at the distributor end as well, ensuring a tight fit and checking for corrosion. Replace any damaged wires as needed, using a pre-cut wire set designed for your specific engine model to prevent firing order mix-ups. Additionally, inspect the distributor cap for cracks, carbon tracks, and worn or loose contacts, and examine the rotor for cracks and carbon tracks. If damage or defects are found, replace the cap and rotor. It's also recommended to measure the resistance between the spark plug wires and the cap; if it exceeds the specified maximum value, replace either the cap, wires, or both. When installing a new cap, transfer the wires one at a time to the new cap in the exact same location to avoid firing order confusion.
