If caliper replacement is necessary due to fluid leaks, a stuck piston, or a broken bleeder screw, there are options available such as new or factory rebuilt calipers on an exchange basis. To begin the replacement process, loosen the front wheel lug nuts and raise the front of the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and remove the wheels. Position a drain pan under the brake assembly and clean the caliper and surrounding area with brake system cleaner. Remove about two-thirds of the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir and discard it. Next, unscrew the tube nut fitting and detach the brake line from the caliper, then remove the caliper mounting bolts. If the caliper cannot be pulled off, the brake pads may be hanging up on the ridge around the disc's circumference, in which case the brake pads should be removed. For the rear caliper, push the piston back into the bore with a C-clamp to provide room for the new brake pads. Remove the brake hose-to-caliper union bolt and use a piece of hose to plug the banjo fitting. Remove the caliper mounting bolts and detach the caliper from the mounting bracket. If reinstalling the same caliper, clean it with brake system cleaner and inspect for leaks or damage. Install the caliper and tighten the mounting bolts. Connect the brake hose or line to the caliper using new sealing washers for the rear caliper and tighten the union bolt. Bleed the brake system if necessary. Finally, install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and check brake operation before putting the vehicle into service.
