Q:
How to Change an Oil Filter and Oil on a Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
A:
Frequent oil changes are the best preventive maintenance for the engine as aging oil becomes diluted and contaminated, leading to premature engine wear. Before starting the procedure, ensure you have all the necessary tools and plenty of rags or newspapers for spills. Access to the underside of the vehicle is improved with a hoist, ramps, or jack stands. Familiarize yourself with the location of the oil drain plug before the first oil change. Park the vehicle on a level spot, start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature. Turn off the engine and remove the filler cap. Raise the vehicle and support it with jack stands. Place a drain pan under the drain plug and remove it, allowing the old oil to drain. Inspect the old oil for metal shavings. Wipe off the drain plug and clean the area around the opening. Reinstall and tighten the plug securely. Move the drain pan under the oil filter and loosen it with a filter wrench. Wipe off the mounting surface on the block and ensure no old gaskets remain. Smear engine oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter and screw it into place. Remove all tools and lower the vehicle. Add new oil through the filler cap and pour three quarts. Check the oil level on the dipstick and install the filler cap hand-tight. Start the engine and check for leaks. Wait for the oil to trickle down and recheck the level. During the first few trips after the oil change, check for leaks and proper oil levels. Dispose of the old oil properly by contacting a local disposal facility or environmental agency. Do not pour used oil into drains or onto the ground.

Q:
How to perform a frequent Oil Filter and oil change for preventive maintenance on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
A:
Frequent oil changes are essential for preventive maintenance to prevent premature engine wear due to aging, diluted, and contaminated oil. Ensure you have all necessary tools and ample rags or newspapers to handle potential spills. To access the underside of the vehicle, it's beneficial to lift it on a hoist, drive onto ramps, or support it with jack stands. Familiarize yourself with the oil drain plug's location if it's your first oil change, anticipating potential issues before the engine and components become hot. Park on level ground, start the engine, and let it reach normal operating temperature, then turn off the engine and remove the filler cap. Raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands, remove the under-vehicle splash shield, and position a drain pan under the oil pan's drain plug. Remove the plug, allowing the old oil to drain into the pan and inspect it for metal shavings and chips. After draining, wipe the plug clean and the surrounding area, reinstall and securely tighten the plug. Position the drain pan under the oil filter, loosen the filter using a filter wrench, wipe the mounting surface, ensure there's no residue, and compare the old filter to the new one. Lubricate the new filter's gasket with engine oil and hand-tighten it following directions on the canister or packing box. Remove tools and lower the vehicle, add new oil through the filler cap, pour three quarts, wait, check the level with the dipstick, start the engine, and check for leaks. Afterward, wait, recheck the dipstick level, and add oil if necessary. Monitor for leaks and proper oil levels during the first few trips after the oil change. Dispose of the old oil properly, as it cannot be reused, and consult local authorities or recycling facilities for disposal instructions, never pouring it into drains or onto the ground.
