- Q:How to remove and install the steering gear in a Toyota Camry and Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
- A:Toyota requires the engine and transaxle assembly to be removed in order to gain access to the rack and pinion. To remove, first remove the engine and transaxle assembly. Next, detach the pressure and return lines from the rack and pinion and remove the mounting fasteners for the rack and pinion. Pull out the rack and pinion assembly and check the mounting grommets of the rack and pinion for excessive wear or deterioration, replacing them if necessary. For installation, place the rack and pinion into position and install the mounting fasteners, tightening them to the specified torque. Install the engine and transaxle assembly and connect the U-joint, aligning the marks. Attach the tie-rod ends to the steering knuckle arms. Install the U-joint pinch bolt and tighten it to the specified torque. Connect the power steering pressure and return hoses to the rack and pinion, and fill the power steering pump reservoir with the recommended fluid. Reattach the bracket to the top of the rack and pinion assembly. Finally, lower the vehicle and bleed the steering system.Posted by ToyotaPartsDeal Specialist
