Q:
How to remove and install fuel injectors and fuel rail on V6 and V8 models? Posted by Customer
A:
To begin the removal process, relieve the system fuel pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For V6 models, remove the engine cover, air filter Air Filter Box, and upper intake manifold. Proceed by disconnecting the vacuum signal hose from the fuel pressure regulator, and disconnecting the fuel supply line and fuel return line quick-connect fittings. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors, remove the fuel rail mounting bolts, and then remove the fuel rail and injectors as a single assembly. Separate the injectors from the fuel rail and remove the O-rings and insulators from each injector, discarding them. During installation, coat each new injector O-ring and insulator with clean engine oil and install them on each injector. Follow the reverse order of removal steps, ensuring that the fuel rail mounting bolts are tightened securely. Start the engine and check for any fuel leaks. For V8 models, begin by removing the throttle body cover and air intake duct. Unscrew the pulsation damper from the rear end of the left fuel rail and disconnect the fuel supply line banjo fitting, discarding the old sealing washers. Disconnect the fuel return hose and vacuum signal hose from the fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the electrical connector and hoses from the EVAP canister purge valve, remove the purge valve retaining bolt, and take out the purge valve from the intake manifold. Disengage the harness clamps or remove any harness clamp bolts to detach the fuel injector/ignition coil wiring harness. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coils and fuel injectors on each cylinder bank and set aside the wiring harnesses. Remove the banjo bolts connecting the front fuel rail crossover pipe to the fuel rails, including the old banjo bolt sealing washers. Remove the nuts attaching each fuel rail and remove both fuel rails and eight fuel injectors from the intake manifold. Remove each injector from the fuel rail and replace the old O-rings and grommets with new ones, coating them with clean engine oil for easier installation. To install the injectors, insert them into the fuel rails and push them back into their bores in the intake manifold until fully seated. Coat the outer surfaces of the injector O-rings and grommets with clean engine oil. Install the fuel rail retaining nuts securely. Use new sealing washers to install the fuel rail crossover pipe and tighten the banjo bolts to the specified torque. When installing the fuel supply line banjo bolt, use new sealing washers and tighten to the correct torque. Follow the reverse order of removal for the remaining steps during installation.
