To replace the balljoint, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and securing it on jackstands. Remove the wheel for better access. If using the pickle fork method, remove the cotter pin from the balljoint stud and loosen the nut without removing it completely. Separate the balljoint from the steering knuckle using a pickle fork-type balljoint separator, taking care not to damage the rubber boot. Remove the balljoint stud nut and the bolts/nuts securing the balljoint to the control arm. Use a prybar to separate the balljoint from the control arm. When installing the new balljoint, position it on the steering knuckle and tighten the nut without fully tightening it. Attach the balljoint to the control arm, install the bolts/nuts, and tighten them to the specified torque. Finally, tighten the balljoint stud nut to the proper torque, insert a new cotter pin, and reinstall the wheel. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts to the correct torque, and follow the same process for the puller method if applicable. If using the puller method, separate the control arm from the balljoint, suspend the drive axle with a wire, and remove the cotter pin and nut from the balljoint stud. Use a small puller to pop the balljoint stud from the steering knuckle, remove the nut, and replace the balljoint. Tighten the nut to the specified torque, insert a new cotter pin, and insert the drive axle through the steering knuckle. Tighten the nut securely but not completely. Connect the balljoint to the lower arm, tighten the fasteners to the specified torque, and reinstall the wheel. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts, and finally, tighten the drive axle/hub nut to the specified torque, securing it with a lock washer and cotter pin.
