To remove the front console upper panel, you need to unplug the 2-4 Selector electrical connector (if applicable) and remove the transfer shift lever knob (if applicable). Then, remove the two clips, the screws, and the front console box.

To remove the rear console upper panel, remove the heater control knobs and pry off the heater control plate, then remove the center cluster finish panel. On 4WD Tacoma models without One-Touch 2-4 Selector, remove the two front console box screws, lift up the front console box with the transfer shift lever knob and unplug the electrical connectors. On 4WD Tacoma models with One-Touch 2-4 Selector, remove the three front console box screws and remove the front console box. On 4WD 4Runner models without 2-4 Selector, remove the transfer shift lever knob. On 4Runner models with 2-4 Selector, remove the transfer shift lever knob screw and remove the knob, remove the front console upper panel, unplug the 2-4 Selector electrical connector, remove the transfer shift lever knob, then remove the two clips, the screws and the front console box. Remove the front console upper panel. On models with 2-4 Selector, unplug the 2-4 Selector electrical connector and remove the transfer shift lever knob. Remove the two clips, the screws and the front console box. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the nut and washer and disconnect the shift control rod from the shift lever. Unplug the electrical connector, remove the shift lever base mounting bolts and remove the shift lever assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the shift control rod-to-shift lever nut.
