Use spray-on graphite lubricant to maintain door and trunk (or liftgate) locks.

The door lock switches should be operated in both directions with the engine off, listening for the click of the solenoids operating. They should also be tested for continuity.

For door latch removal, begin by raising the window and then removing the door trim panel and water shield. Through the large access hole, disengage the outside door handle-to-latch rod, outside door lock-to-latch rod, and inside handle-to-latch rod. The door lock rods are attached by plastic clips that can be unsnapped to remove the rods from their locating holes. For models with power door locks, disconnect the electrical connectors at the latch. Remove the screws securing the latch to the door and take out the latch assembly through the door opening.For outside handle and door lock cylinder removal, start by raising the window and removing the door trim panel and water shield. Through the access hole, disengage the plastic clips securing the outside door lock-to-latch rod, and remove the bolts holding the lock and handle assembly. Take out the handle and lock cylinder assembly from the vehicle. The lock cylinder can be separated from the handle assembly by removing a clip, or the electrical connector can be unbolted, leaving the cylinder on the handle assembly.Installation for both procedures is the reverse of removal.
