Q:
How to remove and install an exhaust manifold on V4 engine for Toyota Camry and 2007 through 2015 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Working below the vehicle, remove the lower splash shields. Apply penetrating oil to the bolts holding the exhaust pipe to the manifold. After the bolts have soaked, remove the bolts retaining the exhaust pipe to the manifold. Separate the front exhaust pipe from the manifold. Unbolt the lower exhaust manifold braces and remove them from the engine. Also, disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors. Working in the engine compartment, remove the upper heat shield from the manifold. Remove the nuts and bolts and detach the manifold and gasket. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. If the gasket shows signs of leaking, check the manifold for warpage with a straight edge. If the manifold is warped, it must be replaced. Position a new gasket over the cylinder head studs, noting any directional marks or arrows on the gasket that may be present. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts into place. Working from the center out, tighten the nuts or bolts to the torque in three or four equal steps. Reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order of removal. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.

Q:
How to remove and install an exhaust manifold on V6 engine for Toyota Camry and 2007 through 2015 Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the left upstream oxygen sensor. Remove the bolts that secure the exhaust manifold support bracket and remove it. Disconnect any interfering wire clamps. Remove the heat shield from the front exhaust manifold. Evenly loosen the nuts that secure each exhaust manifold and remove the exhaust manifold. Remove and discard the old exhaust manifold gasket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket and install it with the oval-shaped protruding tip facing in the correct direction. For the left (driver's side) manifold, the tip must face to the rear; on the right manifold, it must face to the front. Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts a little at a time, working from the center nuts outward, to the torque.

Q:
How to replace the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter? Posted by Customer
A:
Because of a Federally mandated extended warranty that covers emissions related components such as the catalytic converter, check with a dealer service department before replacing the converter at your own expense. The catalytic converter(s) are incorporated into the exhaust manifold(s). Exhaust manifold replacement procedure. Remove the upstream oxygen sensor(s). Remove the exhaust manifold(s). The catalytic converter(s) is an integral part of the exhaust manifold and cannot be replaced separately. If the catalytic converter(s) is bad, the exhaust manifold must be replaced.
