Q:
How to check and change spark plugs? Posted by Customer
A:
The manufacturer recommends changing the spark plugs every 60,000 miles, but we suggest changing them once a year. To check the condition of the plugs, you will need a spark plug socket, a wire-type feeler gauge, and a torque wrench. If you are replacing the plugs, adjust them to the proper gap and replace them one at a time. Inspect each new plug for defects and check the electrode gaps. If the gap is incorrect, adjust it using the notched adjuster on the feeler gauge. To remove the plugs, work on one at a time, remove the wire and boot, and use compressed air to clean the area. Compare each old plug to determine the engine's overall running condition. To inspect the electrodes of used plugs, use an insulation resistance meter or visually inspect them after racing the engine. If any electrode is damaged or the gap exceeds the maximum allowable specified gap, replace all four plugs. To install the new plugs, use a short piece of rubber tubing to avoid cross-threading, tighten them to the specified torque, and attach the plug wire using a twisting motion. Repeat this process for the remaining spark plugs.
