Have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician. Remove the grille. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the A/C accumulator and cap the open fittings to prevent entry of moisture. After the system has been discharged, detach the two refrigerant lines from the top of the A/C accumulator and cap them. Loosen the pinch bolt or bracket mounting bolts, whichever is easier to get a wrench on, and remove the A/C accumulator. Installation is the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. If the A/C accumulator was replaced, have them add new refrigeration oil to the compressor, about 0.7 ounces for R-12 systems, or 0.34 ounces for R-134a systems. Use only the refrigerant oil compatible with the refrigerant of your system (R-12 vs. R-134a).

Have the refrigerant discharged at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. The A/C Accumulator, which acts as a reservoir and filter for the refrigerant, is located in the left front corner of the engine compartment. Detach the two refrigerant lines from the A/C Accumulator. Once the refrigerant has been discharged, detach the refrigerant lines and cap them immediately. Remove the mounting bolts to free the A/C Accumulator. Immediately cap the open fittings to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture. Unbolt the A/C Accumulator mounting bolts and lift it from the vehicle. Install new O-rings on the lines and lubricate them with clean refrigerant oil. Installation is the reverse of removal. Do not remove the sealing caps until you are ready to reconnect the lines. Do not mistake the inlet (marked IN) and the outlet connections. If a new A/C Accumulator is installed, add 0.7 US fluid ounces (20 cc) of refrigerant oil to the system. Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
