To remove the rear coil springs and shock absorbers, start by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts and raising the rear of the vehicle. Secure it on jack stands and block the front wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheels. Support the rear axle beam with a floor jack on each side, under the lower spring mounts. Remove the lower mounting bolt or nut from each rear shock absorber and pull the shocks from their studs. If necessary, remove the coil springs by slowly lowering the two jacks until the springs are loose and there is enough space to remove them. Take note of how the bottom of the spring fits into its socket on the axle beam. For inspection, check if the rear of the vehicle sits evenly from side to side and front-to-rear, as an uneven stance may indicate the need for coil spring replacement. Inspect the coil springs for any chips, rust, or cracks, and examine the upper spring insulator for cracks or signs of rubber deterioration. To install the new components, start by placing the insulators on the top of the coil springs and inserting the bottom of the springs into their sockets on the rear axle beam. Raise both floor jacks until the upper part of the springs and insulators fit securely into the body. Push the lower shock absorber eyes over their mounting studs and secure them with the mounting bolts. Tighten the lower shock absorber mounting bolts according to the specified torque. Install the wheels and lug nuts. Raise the floor jacks until the jack stands can be removed, and then lower the vehicle. Finally, tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications.
