To remove and replace the fuel tank, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and removing the fuel filler cap. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and siphon the fuel if the tank is full. Raise the vehicle and disconnect the parking brake cable brackets. Remove the underfloor covers and fuel tank shield. Disconnect the fuel line, vapor return line, and EVAP hose, making sure to plug the hoses. Remove the fuel filler tube shield and loosen the clamps on the fuel tank-to-filler pipe hose. Detach the wiring harness clips and support the fuel tank with a floor jack. Remove the bolts from the fuel tank retaining straps and slowly lower the tank. Fold back the fuel tank cushion and remove the wiring harness from the retainer. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump module and fuel gauge sending unit. Remove the tank from the vehicle, clean it, and install the new fuel pump module or sending unit if necessary. Finally, use a scan tool or turn the ignition on to check for fuel leaks before starting the engine.
