Q:
What is the disassembly procedure for the fuel pump used on a 2007 Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
A:
To begin, remove the sending unit assembly from the fuel tank and drain any remaining gasoline from the pump/sending unit. Place the pump/sending unit on a clean workbench in a well-ventilated area. For 2007 and earlier models (except the 2007 RX 350), carefully pry off the end cap from the lower end of the fuel pump/sending unit assembly and remove the rubber insulator from the lower end of the fuel pump. Then, remove the fuel pump inlet strainer by disengaging the locking tabs with a pair of screwdrivers. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel return jet tube hose and fuel filter, and remove the fuel return jet tube assembly by pulling it out of the retainer clip. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector and remove the fuel pump from the fuel filter assembly. Separate the fuel filter housing from the upper part of the fuel pump assembly by disengaging the four locking tabs. Detach the fuel level sending unit from the upper part of the fuel pump assembly by disengaging the locking tangs from the lugs on the upper part of the pump.
