Q:
How does the disassembly procedure differ between the 2007 RX 350 and all 2008 and later models? Posted by Customer
A:
For 2007 RX 350 and all 2008 and later models, the components of the fuel pump assembly are modular and attached to the main housing. To remove the fuel level sending unit, disconnect the electrical connector and pry it from the clips. To remove the fuel pump, disconnect the electrical connector from the mounting flange, remove the spring E-clip, release the claw connectors from the sub-tank, separate the fuel suction support base, release the claw connectors and separate the fuel pump assembly, disconnect and remove the fuel pump electrical harness, and pull the fuel pump up and out from the filter assembly. Remove the O-ring and spacer from the fuel pump, and inspect the strainer for contamination.

Q:
How do you remove and replace a direct injection 2GR-FKS model's fuel pump? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel pump, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the battery. Then, remove the intake manifold and disconnect the electrical connector from the high-pressure fuel pump. Next, remove the wiring harness bracket and disconnect the fuel line from the pump. Use a wrench to disconnect the high-pressure tube and remove it. Loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel pump mounting bolts, taking caution due to the intense spring pressure. Remove the fuel pump lifter guide and inspect it for wear. Finally, remove and replace the fuel pump spacer gasket and O-ring. To install the new fuel pump, start by placing a new O-ring onto the pump and rotating the crankshaft to the correct position. Pour clean engine oil into the fuel pump hole and coat the fuel pump lifter with oil. Install the lifter and guide it into the housing, aligning the key with the groove. Place the spacer gasket and lifter guide onto the valve cover, aligning the fuel pump bolt holes. Hand tighten the high-pressure fuel pump bolts and install the high-pressure fuel tube, tightening the nuts by hand. Finally, tighten the high-pressure fuel pump mounting bolts and the fuel tube nuts to the specified torque.
