Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring that the lockout feature of the anti-theft audio system is turned off if applicable. For T100 and Tacoma models with a V6 engine, remove the air cleaner assembly. Next, remove the serpentine drivebelt. Position a drain pan under the power steering pump and disconnect the pressure and return hoses from the backside of the pump, loosening the hose clamp to detach the return hose and removing the banjo bolt that connects the pressure line to the pump; plug the hoses to prevent contaminants from entering. If replacing the power steering pump, remove the pulley by jamming an extension or tool through one of the pulley holes to immobilize it, then remove the nut. Alternatively, the pulley can be removed after taking the pump out, but it requires securing the pump in a bench vise. Remove the pump mounting fasteners and lift the pump from the engine compartment, being careful not to spill fluid on painted surfaces. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the pulley nut and pump mounting bolts are tightened securely. Finally, fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid and bleed the system as needed.
