  Q: How to remove and install a Toyota T100,1995 through 2004 Toyota Tacoma and 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner's control assembly for the stereo and heater?

  A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the center cluster trim panels. Pull off the control knobs (Pull the selector knob straight off. Pull the knobs off the rotary switches). Remove the mounting screws located on the front of the A/C switch assembly. Pull the A/C switch out slightly. If equipped with cables, twist the flags on the control cable mounts and remove the cables from the A/C switch. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Run the engine and check for proper functioning of the A/C switch. With the cables attached at the A/C switch end and the A/C switch assembly installed in the dash, adjust the cables at their ends. The controls should be set to: RECIRC, COOL, and DEF. To adjust the air inlet damper control cable set the damper lever to FRESH, install the cable and clamp it in place. To adjust the air mix control cable, set the air mix damper to COOL, install the cable and lock the clamp while applying slight pressure on the outer cable. To adjust the mode damper control cable, set the mode damper to the DEF mode, hook the cable end on and tighten the clamp. Check the A/C switch following the accompanying tables. Check the heater control switch following the accompanying tables. If the switch fails any of the tests, replace the A/C switch assembly.
