Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: If the stereo in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Remove the plastic shield from the coil, if equipped. Remove the mounting bolts from the coil electrical connectors and install the ohmmeter probes. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the positive and negative terminals of the coil to check the primary resistance. Compare your reading with the specified coil primary resistance. Measure the resistance between the positive terminal and the high tension terminal to check the secondary resistance. Compare your reading with the specified coil secondary resistance. If either of the above tests yield resistance values outside the specified amount, replace the coil. To replace the coil, detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the heat shield from the coil. Label and disconnect the wires from the coil terminals. Remove the coil mounting screws and lift the coil from the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal.
