How to replace a thermostat in a cooling system?

First of all, if the lower radiator hose is hot, the coolant is flowing and the thermostat is open. To change the thermostat, detach the battery's negative cable, drain the system, undo the thermostat housing, wipe the sealing surfaces, and mount a new gasket. Run the engine and check for leaks.
