How to remove and install the rear axle shaft for the 2003 Toyota Tacoma?

Place jackstands below the frame, not under the axle, remove the wheels' nuts, lift the back end of the car, and safely support it on jack stands. Stop the car from moving by blocking its front wheels and take off the back wheels. Place the jack directly under the housing that holds the rear axle differential. Loop the driveshaft to the differential and put it aside using a piece of wire from beneath the car. Take off the height sensing spring from where it connects between the valve and the axle. Pull all brake hoses and lines from the axle, then cover them with plugs to stop any spills. Remove the rear brake drums and brake assemblies. Free the rear brake cables from each brake part, then take off the cable attachments from the back axle housing. Pull the hose vent from the axle housing and put it aside securely. Move the shock absorbers aside by squeezing them while uncoupling their connection from the spring seats. On Tacoma cars, use a wrench to remove the leaf spring U-bolts. Take off the bumpers and spring seats with the spacers. Put the jack below the diff, take out the whole rear axle from under the car. To install, you must provide extra pushes and turn each suspension bolt until it's tight. Before finishing installing the U-bolts, place weight from the full vehicle on the wheels on Tacoma models. Bleed the brakes.
