  • Q: How to remove and install the front and rear bumpers for the 2008 Toyota Solara?
    A: To work on Solara models, you should glide back part of the fenderwell liner, engage the parking brake, lift the vehicle, then place it on secure jackstands. Unplug the wiring from the battery's negative part. When your car has foglights built in, remove their electrical connections from the back of the bumper's lower cover. Unscrew or remove all pushpins and screws that keep the bumper cover in place, including those under the splash apron, along the bumper's bottom edge, and at each side. Push up the middle button on each plastic fastener using a tiny screwdriver so the fastener stays in place. Be sure all screw points are marked and eliminated before trying to disassemble the fascia, as this part may have different screw numbers and locations than other models. To remove the front cover of Solara models, undo three screws and the radiator grille, then take off the protective panel. Installation goes in the opposite direction, matching the bumper cover's tabs with the vehicle's clips before you bolt and screw them in, with a second person to assist you works best. Work under the car to disconnect plastic clips and screws keeping the lower edge of the bumper cover attached. In the rear fenders, remove any screws holding the front edge of the fascia to the fenderwell, freeing the plastic fender covering if needed. Open your trunk and pull up the mat. Unhook the bumper cover fasteners at each corner inside the trunk using a trim tool. Then take out the clips on the back wall behind the trunk trim panel. Use a small screwdriver to lift up the button on the plastic fasteners of the upper bumper cover clips while pulling the cover outward from the trunk. You don't need to remove the clips to do this. When you need to take out bolts or sticks from a car's body, hit them with a plastic hammer. Installation is the reverse of removal.
