What is the Role and Composition of the Air Bag in the 1997-2001 Toyota Avalon?

All models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), commonly known as an airbag, designed to provide protection for the driver and front-seat passenger in head-on or frontal collisions. The Toyota Avalon Air Bag is a fast-acting inflatable bag that expands in an impact and absorbs the energy to save the occupant from injury during a collision. Strategically placed within the steering wheel and the passenger dashboard, each Air Bag is composed of a crash sensor, inflator with solid propellant, and fabric bag, all connected by a wired harness that retains backup charge if the battery is disconnected. The Toyota system has passed its self-check, which allows the controller to fire immediately only when data like angle and force exceed set thresholds for collision detection.
