For all Avalon cars, first remove the radiator mask. Then draw a line around the latch to guide alignment during re-installation. If your model has a plastic cover over the latch, you must take that off too. Use a socket wrench to stop the bolts that hold the hood latch to the radiator support. Open the latch by removing the hood cable hook that holds it in place. During installation, you must fine-tune the latch so the hood shuts tightly and make sure the bumpers on the hood press together slightly. Get the vehicle up, put jackstands under it for good support, and take off the front wheel. Take off the lower cover on the fender below and also the inner fender liner. Pull the hood cable loose from its latch assembly connection. Tie one end of a thin strand of wire to the cable, and remove all other clips keeping the cable at the fender and firewall. Open the driver's side door sill cover and kick panel, take off the driver's knee bolster panel, and disconnect the cable end from its release lever handle. Run the new cable and grommet toward the passenger area while holding on to the connecting line you put between the old and new cables, just make sure the new cable already has a grommet installed. After connecting the new cable to the piece of wire or string, push both back into the compartment until they end at the latch assembly location. Push the fresh cable into the hood cable grip, making sure the wire housing fits well into the lug on the handle frame. You put the grommet back into place by pushing from inside the car with your fingers.
