Toyota Celica Oil Pan
The function of the Toyota Celica Oil Pan is to be the reservoir that holds the lubricating oil for the engine. It also keeps the oil in a container underneath the engine. The Oil Pan, which is mounted towards the bottom of the engine block, forms a part of a wet sump lubrication system in which oil collects in the pan before being drawn up by the pump and circulated through moving parts. In every Toyota Celica model, the Oil Pan's metallic shell also serves to partially encase the crankcase region. The design is a sealed basin that helps to prevent leaks, and there is enough oil for the vehicle to lubricate continuously. As the sump is located beneath the crankshaft, in a Toyota Celica, the engine is mounted slightly higher to provide clearance for the Oil Pan. - Q: How to remove and reinstall an oil pan on Toyota Celica?A:Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, set the parking brake, and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shields under the engine if equipped, then drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter along with the oil dipstick. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the engine and remove the clamp behind the engine to allow the pipe to hang down. Unbolt the crossmember connecting the lower suspension mounts and remove it from under the oil pan, including unbolting the rear crossmember and removing the engine mount nuts, as well as unbolting the front mount and removing the two front crossmember bolts. Remove the block-to-transaxle brace and detach the oil pan by removing the bolts; if it's stuck, carefully pry it loose with a small screwdriver or putty knife, ensuring not to damage the mating surfaces to prevent oil leaks. Use a scraper to eliminate all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the block and oil pan, then clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone, ensuring the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Check the oil pan flange for distortion, particularly around the bolt holes, and if necessary, flatten and restore the gasket surface using a hammer on a block of wood. Inspect the oil pump pick-up tube assembly for cracks and a blocked strainer, reinstalling it if removed with a new O-ring or gasket, tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Apply a 5 mm wide bead of sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring the oil pan is installed within 3 minutes of application. Carefully position the oil pan on the engine block, install the bolts, and tighten them to the specified torque, working from the center out. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to add oil and install a new oil filter before running the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks.
