To replace the equalizier to parking brake cable, unbolt the rear wheel lug nuts and jack up the rear end of the car and support it with jack stands while turning the wheels forward along with chocking the front wheels. First, unbolt the wheel, check to be certain that the parking brake is off; then, you can take off the brake drum or the brake disc. Moving on, disengage the brake-shoe assembly and release the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. Remove the casing crimped to the backing plate; and remove the cable bracket from the frame at the forward end of the strut rod, and from the forward end of the fuel tank strap. Find the coarse on cable at the front of the vehicle, undo the cable clamp, then pull out the cable housing. Twist the cable and grommet counter clockwise out of the guide just behind the equalizer and then disengage the cable assembly by aligning the end of the cable with the slot on the upper half of the lever. Pull the tab on the other end of the cable upward to remove it from the inside of the equalizer part and then slide the other end out from the slot part. For installation, do the reverse of the above procedures mentioned and fine tune the parking brake if necessary. The equalizer-to-brake lever cable: there is the center console; in this case, the lever should be in the down position, the locknut, and adjusting nut are to be dismantled to separete the cable from the lever. Behind the vehicle push the cable back at 90 degrees continuing through the middle of the equalizer while lifting it through the hole at the floor pan. Last comes the installation that is done in reverse of the removal; lubricate a little grease on the cable end that touches the equalizer, and the parking brake lever may be set according to the requirement.
