The Toyota Highlander Fuse protects against overcurrent by cutting off the electrical flow when a circuit draws more amperage than it is rated for to prevent damage to the radio, headlights, turn signals, or navigation unit. The Fuse is housed in a plastic box, usually placed under the hood or under the dashboard. The circuit is opened instantly by the melting of a thin metal strip within by excessive current. By enclosing the relays, moisture, vibration, and heat from the engine bay are prevented from hitting the smaller circuitry enclosed with them. - Q: What are fuses and how do they protect electrical circuits on Toyota Highlander?A:The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by fuses and circuit breakers and fusible links, The fuse blocks are located at two places, one under the instrument panel and second in the engine compartment where the engine compartment fuse and relay box is located on the left side. On the under side of the cover there is a label which reads 'fusible link area' where there are cartridge-style fusible links and another fuse box is located inside the car at the left extremity of the dash behind a modest door marked 'fuse'. The fuse is designed for guarding a particular circuit, labeled on the cover of the fuse panel; miniaturized fuses with blades terminals allow quick swapping.
