Toyota Matrix Antenna
The Antenna in the Toyota Matrix delivers clear AM, FM, and satellite audio. It does this by capturing radio waves and sending amplified signals to the cabin receiver. In the initial years of the Matrix, early Antenna incarnations featured that tall but narrow external metal mast near the hood. This design derived from older-generation Toyota compacts, but drivers would at times have to push the Antenna down so it did not scrape in low garages. As manufacturing progressed, Toyota utilized a fixed rod Antenna with a shorter design that still mounts outside but relies on internal wiring and a small inline amplifier for similar reception with less wind noise. Some trim levels use this rod with a discreet satellite puck on the roof so that occupants can relish premium digital channels requiring a separate high-frequency feed. Some later Matrix models have internally embedded units within the windshield. The Antenna is concealed within glass layers, making it more difficult to steal and allowing for better styling. However, due to its lower position, it may be slightly less sensitive in rural zones. With these styles, every Antenna translates invisible electromagnetic energy into electrical current so that the radio can turn it into sound.

- Q: How to replace the mast-type antenna on Toyota Matrix?A:The vehicles equipped with a mast-type antenna attached to the rear of the roof may also have satellite radio antennas in later models, with both types mounted in the same location. If the antenna mast is damaged, it can be removed by turning it counterclockwise; wrapping the antenna with tape provides a better grip for hand removal. The antenna cable runs from the radio up through the passenger-side windshield pillar under the headliner, connecting at the rear of the roof. To replace the antenna base, the rear upper-quarter trim on the driver's side must be removed, followed by the rear headliner retaining fasteners, allowing the headliner to drop down enough to access the nut securing the antenna base to the roof. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
