How should headlights be aimed correctly to ensure safety on Toyota Rav4?

There are some legal requirements that need to be met when adjusting the headlights, including; not to blind other motorists on the road ahead and adequate illumination on the road. The aim should be checked at least annually or as often as once in every twelve months or at any time that a new headlight has been fitted or any front-end body work has been done. The following procedure is a temporary fix until a professional can make the necessary amendments. To adjust the headlights one has to use masking tape, a blank wall and a level working floor. To begin with, place the vertical masking tape on the wall parallel to the vehicle's centre line, and parallel to the centre lines of both headlights. Then, a horizontal tape line must also imposed on all headlights with reference to centerline and the car should be kept just a few inches away. Make sure the car is at least 25 feet away from the wall, stand upright, the fuel gauge should indicate half and empty container and no load inside the car. Rotate a large Phillips head screw that is provided in the gear-drive adjustment mechanism to make changes. For low beams, locate the high-intensity zone two inches beneath the horizontal axis and two inches off the headlight vertical axis, in the direction of oncoming traffic; turn the vertical screw up or down to raise or lower the beam and the horizontal screw up or down to shift the beam to the left or right. When high beams are switch on then the high intensity zone should lie just below the horizontal line. That is why if a compromise is inevitable, it is better to turn on the low beams for drivers and arranged an appointment with a professional service department for the adjustment of the headlights as soon as possible.

Q: How should headlights be aimed correctly to ensure safety on Toyota Rav4?

There are some legal requirements that need to be met when adjusting the headlights, including; not to blind other motorists on the road ahead and adequate illumination on the road. The aim should be checked at least annually or as often as once in every twelve months or at any time that a new headlight has been fitted or any front-end body work has been done. The following procedure is a temporary fix until a professional can make the necessary amendments. To adjust the headlights one has to use masking tape, a blank wall and a level working floor. To begin with, place the vertical masking tape on the wall parallel to the vehicle's centre line, and parallel to the centre lines of both headlights. Then, a horizontal tape line must also imposed on all headlights with reference to centerline and the car should be kept just a few inches away. Make sure the car is at least 25 feet away from the wall, stand upright, the fuel gauge should indicate half and empty container and no load inside the car. Rotate a large Phillips head screw that is provided in the gear-drive adjustment mechanism to make changes. For low beams, locate the high-intensity zone two inches beneath the horizontal axis and two inches off the headlight vertical axis, in the direction of oncoming traffic; turn the vertical screw up or down to raise or lower the beam and the horizontal screw up or down to shift the beam to the left or right. When high beams are switch on then the high intensity zone should lie just below the horizontal line. That is why if a compromise is inevitable, it is better to turn on the low beams for drivers and arranged an appointment with a professional service department for the adjustment of the headlights as soon as possible.
