To replace the door latch, first raise the window and remove the door trim panel and watershield. Through the large access hole, disengage the two rods connected to the outside handle and the lock cylinder, noting that all door lock rods are attached by plastic clips that can be unsnapped and pulled out. For models with power door locks, disconnect the electrical connectors at the latch. Next, remove the screws securing the latch to the door, which is held in place by three screws, and take out the latch assembly while keeping the two cables from the inside door handle attached. For the outside handle and lock cylinder assembly, again raise the window and remove the door trim panel and watershield, taking care to avoid scratching the paint by applying wide masking tape around the handle opening. Disengage the plastic clips securing the outside door lock-to-latch rod and detach the actuating rod from inside the door opening. Remove an access plug at the rear of the door and use a Torx socket to loosen the bolt holding the lock cylinder and outside handle cover, then slide the handle rearward to remove it. The lock cylinder can be taken out by sliding it out of the handle assembly, which may involve removing a clip or unbolting the electrical connector. Finally, installation follows the reverse order of removal.
