To remove the transfer case, start by removing the transfer shift lever and detaching the breather hose. Then, raise the vehicle and remove the skid plate. Drain the transfer case lubricant and remove the front and rear driveshafts. Disconnect all vacuum and vent lines, unplug electrical connectors, and detach wiring harnesses from the transfer case. Support the transmission and unbolt the transfer mount and crossmember. Support the transfer case with a jack and remove the nuts and bolts securing it to the transmission. Move the transfer case and jack towards the rear of the vehicle until it is clear of the transmission, then lower and remove it. If replacing the transfer case, remove the dynamic damper and install it on the new unit. Also, remove the 4WD indicator switch, L4 indicator switch, and vehicle speed sensor, and install them on the new transfer case. To install, reverse the removal steps and ensure the transmission-to-transfer case bolts are tightened.
