Shut down power windows and door locks on your vehicle. Also turn off the lockout in your anti-theft audio system before disconnecting the battery. First, take off the door trim panel and the piece of plastic covering the water channels. With a flashlight, look at how the control rods are linked to the door handle, then take the fastener(s) apart from the lock to let it come loose. If your car has power for door locks, take off the electrical plug from the door latch. Lift up the door latch and unscrew retaining bolts to free the latch from its position in the door. Then, pull off the part. You tighten the screws exactly like you removed them to put everything back together. First, look at how the control rods affix to the door handle and are linked inside to the key lock. Unhook the links from either the handle or lock to separate them. Take off the bolts holding the door handle and key lock cylinder. Unsnap the handle from the door, and when you put it back, be sure to screw the bolts down tightly. We remove and install the inside door handle when we take out and put back the door trim panel. When reassembling, tighten the handle's bolts properly.
