All models are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), commonly known as an Air Bag, to protect the driver and front seat passenger in a head-on or frontal collision. The system includes Air Bag Sensor, an Air Bag Control Module in the steering wheel and instrument panel, and a sensing/diagnostic module. Some models also have side impact airbags and side curtain airbags. The driver's side airbag inflates instantly when an electrical signal is sent, while the passenger's side airbag is larger and mounted above the glove compartment. Side impact airbags are in the seat backs, and side curtain airbags come out of the headliner to protect all passengers. The sensing and diagnostic module checks the airbag system's operation at every vehicle start. Caution must be taken when handling airbag modules, and specific procedures vary for component removal and installation.
