To remove the control arm, first loosen the wheel lug nuts on the side to be dismantled, raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely on jackstands, and remove the wheel. For 2004 and later Toyota and all Lexus models, the transverse engine mount at the subframe may interfere with the removal of the rear bolts of the control arms, making the procedure difficult and requiring an engine lifting hoist or support fixture. Next, remove the balljoint retaining bolt and nuts to disconnect the control arm from the balljoint, using a prybar to separate them. Then, remove the two bolts that attach the front of the control arm to the engine cradle, followed by the bolt and nut that attach the rear of the control arm to the engine cradle, and finally, remove the control arm. Inspect the control arm to ensure it is straight; if bent, it should be replaced, and any cracked, torn, or worn bushings will also necessitate a replacement of the control arm. For installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque. After installing the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque, and consider having the front wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary after completing the job.

Use a prybar to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
