Q:
What are the drivebelts and why are they crucial for a Toyota T100,Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Tacoma's operation? Posted by Customer
A:
The drivebelts, also known as V-belts, are located at the front of the engine and are crucial for the vehicle's operation. They can fail over time, so regular inspection and adjustment is necessary to prevent engine damage. The number of belts used depends on the accessories installed, such as the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. To inspect the belts, open the hood and check for cracks, separation, fraying, and glazing. Both sides of each belt should be inspected. To check the tension, push on the belt at a distance halfway between the pulleys and measure the deflection. If adjustment is needed, loosen the bolts on the belt-driven accessory and move it away from or toward the engine to tighten or loosen the belt. After adjusting, check the tension again and tighten the bolts if necessary. To replace a belt, follow the adjustment procedures and slip the old belt off the pulleys. It's recommended to replace all belts at the same time and bring the old belts when purchasing new ones for comparison. Adjust the new belts as described earlier.
