Q:
What are the drivebelts and why are they crucial for a Toyota Land Cruiser's operation? Posted by Customer
A:
The drivebelts, also known as V-belts, are located at the front of the engine and are crucial for the vehicle's operation. Over time, these belts are prone to failure and should be inspected and adjusted regularly to prevent engine damage. The number of belts used depends on the accessories installed, such as the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. To inspect the belts, open the hood and check for cracks, separation, fraying, and glazing. The tension of each belt can be checked by pushing on it at a distance halfway between the pulleys. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the adjusting bolt and pivot bolt of the corresponding component and move it to tighten or loosen the belt. Care must be taken not to damage any components. To replace a belt, follow the adjustment procedures and remove the old belt, replacing it with a new one. It is recommended to replace all belts at the same time and to bring the old belts when purchasing new ones for comparison. Adjust the belts as described earlier.
